PHOENIXVILLE Commonwealth Court has ruled in favor of the Phoenixville Area School District's condemnation of a local golf course whose owners sued the district for seizing the 43-acre property. The rapidly growing, 3,600-student district maintains that it needs the site for an $80.9 million plan to build an early learning center, elementary school, and athletic fields, slated to open in the 2017-18 school year. The school board voted to seize the land in November 2013. A month later, the golf club owners sued in Chester County Court and subsequently lost. They filed an appeal in Commonwealth Court.
